Fires of Hokkai [Feb. 2nd, 2010|08:09 pm]

Semester's getting into full swing, and it's 50 GAJILLION times better than last semester. Experimental isn't hard, just time-consuming, and Fracture is fine. Gonna have to get to work on the first homework soon. Comics is Comics and is just cool to learn the history of the modern comic.

So you know me, rough and tumble shonen action guy, which is why I find it hard to admit this. Episode 6 of Haruhi (the conclusion of the actual Melancholy storyline) might be one of the greatest episodes of an anime I've *EVER* seen. I'm talking One Piece ep 126 level amazingness here. Everything about it was amazing from the animation to the music to "The Scene".

Raided for the first time in ages two weeks ago where we RAMPAGED Onyxia and ToC10. Raids are fun when they're not wipe-fests.

Been playing a lot of Disgaea 3 as well, almost to the end. Got an Archer who just FUCKS. SHIT. UP. When she combos with Mao, the only survivors of the initial blow are bosses...if they're lucky.

Hopefully paycheck time is soon so I can mainly get some monies to Brad for ACEN and then perhaps get Borderlands.

Emotional Skyscraper ~ Cosmic Mind [Jan. 20th, 2010|11:33 pm]
Aaron "Keff" Bonney
So yeah, what it seems with my classes this year is one AWESOME class, one OKAY class, and one AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH class.

AWESOME
---
Topics in Book History: The American Comic Book
---
Exactly how it sounds. The professor said that other times he teaches entire courses on Superheroes and the sort, so he's a huge fanboy but he's also supposedly a really high end professor in the English Department, so yeah. I do have to grab nine books (five comic, four non) sometime soon, but there's no homework, three papers, and a presentation. Which is very nice.

OKAY
---
Fracture Mechanics
---
Well first of all, I checked the finals schedule set out by the University and the time slot for classes at this time...was on Friday. ACEN Friday. But remember last year how I had that whole escapade about a final the Friday before finals week (which happened to be ACEN Friday)? SAME PROF! And his schedule hasn't changed! Final is Friday before finals week, which ISN'T ACEN Friday this time! SCORE!
Looks like the class will be a big focus on LEFM which isn't *THAT* bad. Plus I know how the Prof rocks and he's pretty cool.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
---
Experimental Engineering
---
This is "THE MURDER CLASS" at UI. Doing the first homework, yeah, I can see why. Halfway through I already had to grab a beer. One big luxury is that it's all alone on my Tuesday/Thursday. Of course the face it goes from 10:30 to 1:30 helps (or not). But most of the work is lab and the grades are all spread out and no real impact is placed on one aspect (like a certain OTHER class I've had the...pleasure of taking...and get to take again). So basically muscling through will hopefully give me a good grade.

So yeah, the Big Three. May God have mercy on us all

Kagome, Kagome ~ Cinderella Cage [Jan. 19th, 2010|12:13 pm]

Have I used that yet?

Well winter break has come and gone and I am ready to...not fail horribly like I did last semester. Most of note is an extremely easier schedule with only three(!) classes. One of those three are also completely centered around comic books, which is just plain awesome.

Finished off winter break playing WoW and PS3, where my inner masochist has come out and said "I want to raid again!". Although I've yet to cross paths with my GM since I made that decision so I haven't been able to tell her that I want on the calender. Thanks to the new (I won't call it 'better') badge system, I'm getting good gear by the shitload and I think I'm ready for ToC10 and Ony. Not "quite" ready for ICC, and I did strike a chord with other guildmates when I said that we should down Uld sometime before Cata (I looked in the guild progress, they got Yogg but never beat him), and perhaps with ToC/Ony/ICC gear, that ball of mouths can burn quickly.

Got BlazBlue which I am INFINITELY better at than SFIV, quickly mained Taokaka and began kicking ass in heavy amounts. SLICEY SLICEY!

Also with my new HDTV, I get HDNet where I got to scratch an itch that has persisted for while in watching ROH Wrestling which was really cool. My friend said that in 1 hour of ROH there will be more wrestling than in 2 hours of Raw. He was right. Four matches, only one was quick, and two quick promos compared to TAAAAAAALK talk talk talk talk on Raw. The fourth match in Raw didn't happen until deep in the second hour. Yeah. Thankfully there is EXTREEEEEEEEEME on Tuesday where they actually have matches with people who are fun to watch (and then there's Vance Archer), so WWE has that going for them...which is nice...

Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship [Jan. 8th, 2010|09:26 pm]
Aaron "Keff" Bonney
alt. title: I'M ON A BOAT

So I just got back from Miami a few days ago and despite its FRIGID FRIGID temperature of...49 degrees, it was fantastic.

MIAMI: Day the First

Plane left Cedar Rapids early morning (I'm unsure on whether or not the sun was up yet) and arrived in Ft Lauderdale where the locals were bundled up and we were talking off our sweatshirts. It felt con-like in that we were without a room until late afternoon, so I took off exploring. Turns out two miles to the beach is a long walk. It was mostly a rest day and I think I went to bed around 8 or 9.

MIAMI: Dia numero Duex

Truly walked to the beach this time before going halfway and turning back the day before. As expected with the temperatures, the only people who thought it was a good idea were Iowans. Somehow found myself in the Iowa media hotel, where I saw Keith Murphy setting up a camera and Andy Fales taking pictures of a tiger-print Hummer limo. After that, we went to the big pep rally in Miami Beach which is your standard fare, band, cheerleaders, speeches by the radio announcers and some other people. One thing that was cool was that they invited the players' parents onstage and they introduced themselves. Went back to the hotel after that, watched Raw is Bret, and went to bed.

MIAMI: Game Day HOO-AH!

With the bus leaving at 5PM, we thought we would've had enough to go to the Everglades and do an airboat ride. We were right...barely. As we got back to the hotel, we saw the busses and police up and ready. Yeah, we had a police escort. A police escort through I-95, Miami's main interstate. A police escort through I-95, Miami's main interstate, DURING RUSH HOUR. We were fucking KINGS. Landshark is a really cool stadium, although I was sad that the band only did pregame, since halftime was taken by Kool and the Gang. It was interesting to see them (and the multitudes of underage girls that should be glad a certain fellow wasn't there) but I still prefer marching band shows. All I have to say about the game was FUCK YEAH!

MIAMI: Dawn of the Final Day

Had to check out at 11. Bus to the airport leaves at 6. DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM HERE? So we were roomless for 7 hours. Luckily, the Water Taxi ended up being a great way to waste time. It was a nice little mini-tour of the canal area of Ft Lauderdale, with all the EXTREMELY RICH FUCKS and the houses they own because of the businesses they've brought to the top (Off the top of my head, the owners of Taco Bell, Alamo Rental, Florida Panthers, Red Roof Inn, former owner of Blockbuster, etc etc). Still a few more hours to kill, but I stopped by a burger place called 5 Guys which is fucking AMAZING. It is to McDonalds like Chipotle is to Taco Bell. Really high quality burgers which you can order with nigh ANYTHING. I got a big double cheeseburger with pickles, fried onions, mushrooms, pickles, and lettuce. There needs to be a 5 Guys in Iowa NOW! Eventually bussed out to the airport and flew back to CR. During the flight I came SO FUCKING CLOSE to 1cc'ing MoF on Normal. I got to Kanako's final card and got her to around an eighth of her health left until my bomb-exhausted Reimu ran into an attack. CR was cold and snow-covered as expected, made it to my apartment where I crashed for a few days before getting to DM.

ALSO, now that I'm in DM, I am PS3-tastic! You can find me at OmegaKefka. I currently have Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3, and Street Fighter IV. So hit me up, fuckers!

Always Look On The Bright Side of Life [Jan. 1st, 2010|03:21 am]
Aaron "Keff" Bonney
So yeah...if that last entry whizzed over your head, I failed a class that is fall-only and therefore my planned May graduation has been delayed to December at earliest.

Obviously, this is horrible. Very, very horrible because the class SUUUUUUUUUCKED and I will try to find a similar to fill the credit to avoid the class, professor, homework, and basically everything.

But, Aaron, where are the positives of this? Well...it's quite simple...

ACEN TWENTY-TENVASION

To overpower the shittiness of class failure, the next con that I will go to will be the MOST FUCKING AWESOME THING IN THIS AND THE SIX CLOSEST GALAXIES! If I'm lucky, I will discover the power of time control and make ACEN 2010 last at least two weeks longer than planned.

If I'm lucky...

SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

Yes the white death has left her mark on Iowa City and while it was nice to have Wednesday off, that fun is over and is now replaced with lots of cold.

That video thing I was talking about? Uh...yeah...it's here:

If you have 9 minutes to waste, yeah. Obviously my style is very NC-like right now but that's why I'm making them and will eventually evolve into my own method. Already writing the script for episode 2, Black Star will hopefully provide more joke opportunities than Maka.

Not much else right now. Fearing finals like mad, but that's expected.

Higan Retour ~ Riverside View [Dec. 7th, 2009|12:48 am]
Aaron "Keff" Bonney
So...in a bit of "just want to say I did it" I'm in the process of making a video review ala Nostalgia Critic/Linkara/Spoony. Although it's more a mix of their style plus Let's Play since I'm not purposely doing bad shows. In fact my pilot will be of Soul Eater ep 1, which is obviously a good show (at least in the beginning). If it's a hit and I become an INTERNET CELEBRITY, that's great. But if it bombs and I want to never speak of it again, oh well. It's pretty barebones since (1)I'm poor and (2)I don't want to go out and get good equipment just for it to bomb.

Last week of classes...should maybe figure out when MSD final is since I haven't gone to class in weeks. Other finals are set, only two tests, but two presentations...one to the high brass of the CoE in addition to a doctor that will try to pitch the idea to Johnson & Johnson for BIG BUCKS.

One week after taking Yoris from 29 to 51, he got all the way to......53 this week. Yeah, I wasn't playing WoW much.

But nevermind all that shit, EVERYBODY SAMURAI!

The Maid and the Pocketwatch [Dec. 2nd, 2009|11:27 am]
Aaron "Keff" Bonney
Remember a few entries ago where I wished I was back in early college? I think I figured out why. And I have a perfect example/similarity.

Remember early Bleach? We're talking mid- to late-Soul Society arc at the latest. Remember how smooth, unique, and new it felt and was? That to me defined my first year and a half here at UI. Fresh, new, unique, exciting, fun.

Look at Bleach now. The freshness is gone, the uniqueness washed away, and now it just feels like a mix of a chore and a habit. You tend to stop caring for a little bit and then knocking yourself back into it due to habit or in the case of school, to not fail. Every once in a while something will knock you back into having interest in it (Nel, an exciting class), but it still feels chore-like at times.

How strangely coincidental, since the Bleach anime debuted during, you guessed it, my first semester of freshman year. And as much as I try, I can't get that back. There's no turning back the clock. You can't go home again. The only thing to do is finish (or drop) and find a new series. Hopefully this publication ends in May and a new story will start.

Perhaps even a better one.

Memento Mori [Nov. 29th, 2009|10:36 pm]
Aaron "Keff" Bonney

You Scored as XIII: DeathDeath is probably the most well known Tarot card - and also the most misunderstood. Most Tarot novices would consider Death to be a bad card, especially given its connection with the number thirteen. In fact this card rarely indicates literal death.Without "death" there can be no change, only eventual stagnation. The "death" of the child allows for the "birth" of the adult. This change is not always easy. The appearance of Death in a Tarot reading can indicate pain and short term loss, however it also represents hope for a new future.

XIII: Death

II - The High Priestess

0 - The Fool

I - Magician

IV - The Emperor

III - The Empress

VI: The Lovers

Yeah, stupid quizzes, hooray. And I'm sure I've used this title before. Oh well, only Persona-related one I can think of that will fit.

Back in Iowa City after a very uneventful break if you don't count me plugging away on my laptop playing WoW. I had been going the fresh start method, building a Hunter on WrA. Had a goal to get him to L40 by the end of the week. Ended up getting to L51. Oops.

Last few weeks of the semester, and most of what's left is projects which will all SUUUUUUUUUCK. Plus I feel like giving up on MSD. No good has ever come from that class. I know the prof means well, but his style and mine...just don't mesh at all.

Found out I'm getting a 40" LCD HDTV for Christmas with the obvious option for a PS3, so that's nice...
